Google Drive share Software I've created... github.com/JPElectron?tab=repositories Starting in May, 2020 I decided to open source all of the software previously featured on this site, and in October, 2020 I also consolidated my once flagship product "DNS Redirector" to be open source as well. I never included any back-doors, telemetry, or activation and never sold any subscription. Since Y2K, when I first created this site, I offered only a fair 1-time license with unlimited updates ... but more recently that revenue stream has become non-existent with middle-managers and corporate entities lining up like lemmings to overpay for subscription based products. Disturbing ideals exist nowadays, perpetuated by Windows 10, and further forced upon consumers by other copy-cat companies seeking to legitimize a business model in which software... A] needed to be a cloud connected (adding multiple points of failure, not the least of which is working Internet access, such that the product is cloud dependent) B] would primarily act as or be a method to sell usage data "out the back door" at a higher value than the price of the product to the end-user C] is somehow entitlement to a re-occurring revenue stream (subscription) where the consumer receives far less value and much more risk D] features or "web 2.0" design elements need to be constantly added, regardless of the user base wanting such changes, and with total dis-regard for previous documentation and training As these new norms grew un-checked, my distaste for software development, especially on Microsoft Windows, grew to the point that I no longer want to be involved. Perhaps in another 10 years, after the all the trouble of ransomware, and hacking, and auto-updating failure nonsense ... when the world adopts (returns to) the "next big thing" of on-prem and offline systems that are reliable, resilient, and tested ... might I then return to software as a reputable business. |
